Don't miss the river party of 2014!

The California River Awards

Friday, October 24th 6-9 pm
At The City Club of San Francisco
155 Sansome Street, San Francisco, CA

The California River Awards honors those who have made outstanding contributions to river conservation, preservation, and protection.  Friends of the River’s Mark Dubois Award recognizes those who have taken a leading role in furthering river conservation in California.  This year, as California grapples with one of the worst droughts in its history, the Award will recognize the new generation of leaders whose innovative water solutions can fundamentally change the game—people who are making a difference on-the-ground by advancing cutting-edge sustainable water solutions in order to revive the rivers we depend on and love.

Along with delectable food, terrific wine, and an exciting live auction, the evening presents a wonderful opportunity to support FOR's ongoing efforts to protect rivers while socializing with old and new friends.
This year's event will feature
  • A delicious sit down dinner served to your table.
  • Fine wines and other beverages.
  • A live auction chocked full of "once in a lifetime experiences big and small" as well as a silent auction to tempt attendees with outdoor adventures, fine wines and dining, art, camping equipment, and more.
  • An opportunity to support our campaigns.

About the Mark Dubois Award :

More than forty years ago, the actions of a small group of courageous people fighting to save the river they loved set in motion the end of dam building in North America and the birth of countless river protection and watershed groups keeping the magic of their own rivers alive. The campaign to Save the Stanislaus River built Friends of the River into an institution that has gone on to protect and preserve thousands of river miles in California.

Mark Dubois was the leader and the heart and soul of that historic campaign. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Mark chaining himself to a rock in the river canyon to force the US Army Corp of Engineers to stop the water from rising behind the New Melones Dam or drown him. This award is given to extraordinary people whose efforts recall the can-do spirit that Mark Dubois, Founder and Director Emeritus of Friends of the River, infused into our organization.
